Case study demonstrates need for increased Lyme literacy among health practitioners

Canadian family shares the obstacles faced by their adolescent son.

A new patient focused Lyme disease study funded by CanLyme explores the experiences of a Canadian adolescent with symptom-persistent Lyme disease. Lyme disease is the most prevalent vector-borne illness in North American and infection rates are rising across Canada. The findings demonstrate the challenges an adolescent faced in receiving appropriate diagnosis and treatment for Lyme disease, pointing to a need for increased awareness among health professionals regarding the impact and prevalence of tickborne illnesses for young people, their caregivers and their healthcare providers.
