John McLaughlin, PhD

Dr. John McLaughlin is a Professor Emeritus of epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. He recently retired as Executive Director of the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health (CanPath), which is Canada’s largest long-term prospective cohort study.

Previously he served in executive roles in Ontario’s public health and cancer control agencies. As a scholar he has more than 350 peer-reviewed publications, he continues to teach, mentor trainees and investigators, and advise organizations on population health policy and research. He is recognized as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (FCAHS) and as Fellow Emeritus in the American College of Epidemiology (FACE).

His epidemiological research integrates diverse disciplines in studies of environmental, biological and societal determinants of health, which is known for advancing knowledge and research capacity through his large studies across Canada’s diverse populations.
