First annual Canadian Tick-Borne Disease Conference a success

This conference was an incredible opportunity for practitioners and experts to network and to share ideas formally, through presentations, and informally, between talks.

On November 8th and 9th CanLyme hosted the first annual Canadian Tick-Borne Disease Conference for health care practitioners in downtown Toronto.

Tick-borne disease is an area where Canadian MDs, nurse practitioners and naturopaths work in a truly collaborative manner and the event hosted over 60 attendees across this spectrum including MDs, naturopaths, nurse practitioners, RNs and medical students.

Many excellent Canadian speakers were featured, covering topics such as the scope of tick-borne illness in Canada evidenced by the testing of ticks for human pathogens, current Canadian research, diagnostic methods including the limitations of the current two-tiered testing for Lyme and different approaches to treatment.

The talks were informative and relevant to anyone who encounters patients with infection-associated chronic illness, tick-borne or otherwise. The audience questions showed a high level of engagement and interest.

Perhaps most of all, the conference provided an opportunity for practitioners to network and to share ideas informally between talks.

In spite of a surprise early November snowstorm, the energy and the momentum of the conference continued throughout the second day.

The CanLyme conference organizers are grateful to Dr.Tim Cook who approached us with the idea for the conference, our generous donors  who helped fund the conference, the wonderful staff at Vantage Venues who cheerfully accommodated our every request and importantly all the dedicated and enthusiastic attendees who work diligently to help patients everyday.
