1st Annual CanLyme Disc Golf Charity Fundraiser

CanLyme is organizing our 1st Annual Disc Golf Charity Fundraiser event to help raise awareness of Lyme disease within the local disc golf communities in and around Victoria and south Vancouver Island. This fun and educational event will be held at Mary’s Farm & Sanctuary on Saturday, 11 May 2024.  CanLyme is seeking partners to join us in achieving our goals in terms of sponsorships, cash donations and in-kind donations (products, services, gift certificates etc. for prizes), or a combination of the above.

Where there are ticks, there’s often Lyme disease

Lyme disease is caused by an infection that is most often transmitted by ticks. Ticks can be as small as a poppy seed, and they can be very stealthy. They hang out on blades of grass, leaves and other plants waiting for a host to attach to. Ticks can attach to your body without being seen or felt, and for many reasons, getting a diagnosis and adequate treatment for Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses is not always straightforward and can be very challenging.

Goals: Education, advocacy and research for a better future

The west coast of Canada is not as highly endemic for Lyme disease as the east coast however, it is important for individuals in every region to be aware of tick-bite prevention strategies when spending time outdoors. Ticks carry more than Lyme disease so avoiding tick bites is essential for all tick-borne diseases. Event tickets purchased will help protect and inform players, their families and their communities about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and also help CanLyme continue our important work of Lyme disease education, advocacy and research to help reduce misdiagnosis and improve treatments. Education, awareness and prevention of Lyme disease is key to playing safe in the outdoors.

CanLyme will promote this event through multiple channels including a dedicated event page and multiple news articles published on our website www.canlyme.com, and through direct e-marketing to CanLyme’s database of contacts along with multiple social media channels for the general public with a total audience reach: 10,000+ people.
