Randi Berklande picked up an unwanted guest while going for a hike over the weekend.

Berklande posted a picture of a wood tick she found after hiking on Carrot Mountain near Kelowna. A few hours later, she posted she had found another tick in her backpack.

While it is still winter, the Vernon resident posted the warning to others that ticks seem to be out earlier than usual this year.

I have seen more ticks this year than ever,we were hiking up in the kettle valley area and had ticks on us with In minutes of getting out of the truck and again today after doing what we thought was a very good inspection after hiking in the same area we found one in our bed tonight! So please check yourself, your kids, your pets carefully! We thought we did and we still brought some into our home……..not a good feeling

  2. It is only January and it appears the ticks are out. I woke up to discover one attached to my toe. It must have made its way into the house on either my dog or me yesterday evening while clearing fallen branches near beside a creek where we live not far from Okanagan Falls. Nightly tick checks are now part of our routine.

There are different types of ticks all throughout he Okanagan and Salmon Arm area that I’m aware of. Apparently the tick associated with Lyme can be found in the Salmon Arm, and time will tell as to what they carry I sent my first tick into Can Lyme lab in Edmonton. It will be evaluated when the finding is available.
