Press Release: CROSS CANADA BIKE RIDE FOR LYME DISEASE
St. CATHARINES, ON – APRIL 15, 2015 – At sunrise on May 11, 2015, Niagara natives, 22 year old Daniel Corso and his long time friend Tanner Cookson will begin their 8000 km bike ride across Canada to bring awareness to, and raise money for, Lyme disease.
The ride begins in Victoria, BC at the Terry Fox “Mile 0” mark and the goal is to complete the ride in St. John’s Newfoundland by July 7th, 2015.
A close Corso family friend, 24 yr. old Adelaine who suffers from chronic Lyme disease, was the initial inspiration for the ride; however, after learning the Canadian Health Department does not recognize, effectively diagnose or provide treatment for the thousands of Canadians infected by Lyme disease, the ride became crucial.
“For me, this ride is about spreading the word and bringing awareness to this devastating disease, which can be caused from playing in our own back yards” said Tanner Cookson. “We will be riding across the country this spring to give hope to those who suffer from Lyme disease”, added Corso.
What we want to accomplish:
- Raise $100,000 in donations for Canlyme for Lyme disease research
- Appeal to the Canadian Government to address the need for effective testing in Canada
- To bring awareness to the symptoms, testing and treatment of Lyme disease
Corso and Cookson have been working closely with the Canadian Lyme Foundation “CanLyme”, a registered charitable organization. “Lyme disease is a significant and growing concern for all Canadians. Ride For Lyme will help bring awareness to a new level across the country.” Said Jim Wilson, President, Canadian Lyme disease Foundation.
