Vancouver, BC: Lyme disease sufferers ticked off with Vancouver clinic that was supposed to help them

BY DAN FUMANO, THE PROVINCE APRIL 22, 2015

In 2013, a clinic heralded as the first of its kind in Canada opened in Vancouver with a mandate to diagnose and treat Lyme disease in B.C.

It was a moment of great hope and optimism for many chronic Lyme sufferers in B.C. But two years later, frustrated patients say the clinic, the Complex Chronic Disease Program, has been a failure and they haven’t been able to get the treatment they seek — and they want to know why.

According to Health Canada, Lyme disease is a serious illness caused by the bite of an infected black-legged tick. Symptoms can include fatigue, recurring arthritis, paralysis and cognitive dysfunction.

Lyme disease has often been a contentious topic in Canada, and the CCDP has been beset by controversy. The Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation publicly renounced and criticized the CCDP, and a series of doctors resigned their positions to protest management decisions they said compromised patient care.

My friend has been admitted into hospital 6 times in the past 7 months, she has a PICC for her antibiotics and is taking oral antibiotics as well, they say she has MRSA and SASS which has affected her 4th and 5th vertibrea, but they don’t know how she contacted it. I did mention to 2 Dr’s at 2 different Hospitals that she had had a red rash on her ankle like a ringworm sign, before all the problems started and could it be that she has Lyme Disease – both Doctors said definitely no / there are no problems here with Lyme Disease in the Delta area, only up North Country or down in the US.
How can one rule out completely Lyme Disease without testing and am I worrying for nothing but with Dr. Lucy Kinninmonth being told she had not got it from 20 medical specialist and it turns out she has?????????
