NSW Health moves in the right direction on Lyme disease [Australia]
IN a huge win for Lyme disease sufferers, NSW Health has agreed to encourage doctors to keep an “open mind” about the possibility of locally-acquired Lyme disease.
The department will also request a review of Lyme disease testing and seek advice on improved surveillance of the disease.
The move comes after 150 Lyme disease sufferers and their supporters rallied outside the Ministry of Health in North Sydney last Friday in a bid to have the potentially fatal illness recognised in Australia.
“I’ve had to sell my house, resign from my job and consider moving overseas for treatment because 30 plus doctors and specialists here could not diagnose me,” Lyme disease sufferer Danielle Ryan said.
