Lyme on the rise … Northumberland, Ontario

NORTHUMBERLAND — A rise in Lyme disease cases in Ontario has the local health unit urging people to be cautious.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) said the population of blacklegged ticks is spreading into new areas of the province and with them, comes the possibility of transmitting Lyme disease.

The ticks are tiny and cannot fly, but they will settle on long grasses and bushes until they can attach themselves to a passing person or animal.
