The unresolved nature of this experience persuaded Janet to contribute substantively to the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation. Her 1988 M.Sc. in Entomology (on the physiology and feeding behavior of beetles) gave her a background for understanding the biological diversity and diagnostic complexity of arthropod-vectored illnesses. She is the senior author of a review paper on Lyme disease in press in The Canadian Entomologist.

President and CEO of Magnotta Winery and a driving force in raising awareness for Lyme disease in Canada. With her educational background in medical laboratory science, her vast philanthropic activities over the years have focused on healthcare and helping the needy. She has sat on many boards including hospitals and is now exclusively devoted to advancing Lyme disease awareness and research through fundraising events at her winery, public speaking and working closely with CanLyme to help build its research and testing facility.
